Rising Star Leadership Academy
We started Rising Star Leadership Academy, in 2013. It’s located in the small village of Kabile in the Jaman North District, Bono Region, of western Ghana. Our vision was to create a dynamic and rigorous secular school in an area where there’s very little access to education that is welcoming and available to all. It was also very important to us to establish strong female leadership in a society where women don’t often have access to professional development.
Since 2013, the school has grown from the existing rudimentary structure to a growing multi classroom complex including a computer lab and library, garden, and sports fields where the students regularly train in soccer, golf, and volleyball. We have dug a well and installed water tanks to provide access to potable water and have built a septic system.
Programs in physical education, agriculture, the arts, and computer science have been implemented while simultaneously enriching the standard academics with more experiential and creative learning approaches including vocational training.
We are thrilled with all the dynamic ways that Rising Star has evolved and have exciting plans for the future. This includes enclosing the land with a fence wall to further protect the biodiversity that we have been working to preserve as well as to be able to establish a more expansive sustainable agriculture space that can serve as a laboratory for integrative farming education.

Dream it.
In 2013 we were given the opportunity to purchase a piece of land with a very small school on it and next to no infrastructure. Knowing that the school was crucial to the village and that we were uniquely positioned to develop something magical for the community, we embarked on a dream.

Build it.
Over the past decade, we have used mostly our own funds to build a new facility on the land, from the ground up. There’s now a growing multi classroom complex with access to potable water and a septic system. Programs in sports, agriculture, the arts, and computer science have been implemented while simultaneously enriching the standard academics with more experiential and creative learning approaches including vocational training.

Grow it.
Our efforts growing Rising Star Leadership Academy have been a true labor of love and it has been amazing to witness its evolution and the tremendous and ever growing community impact it has. With every new development the capacity of the school community grows in dynamic ways and we are always looking towards a goal of self-sufficiency. Some of our latest endeavors beyond completing more classrooms and buildings as the school grows, include completing a fence wall so that we can grow our agricultural training program and botanical bank and expand our sports facilities including a new and exciting golf program!
