Holistic Agriculture & Biodiversity Training
We are continuously developing projects and curriculum in integrative agriculture at our school, Rising Star Leadership Academy, both for our students and evening and weekend classes for the community.
Additionally, we are raising funds to enclose the land around the school so we can further protect the incredible biodiversity we’ve inherited and have been working hard to maintain. This protected space will serve in part as a botanical bank for the increasingly threatened plant species on our land and also as a laboratory for teaching and experiencing Integrated Farming Systems, which will in turn directly benefit the school and the farming community at large.
A Youth & Community Wide Resource
Farming and animal husbandry projects have been alive on the school land for years and we have employed a land steward to work on protecting the endangered plants and trees, which are most often cut down to clear space for farming and animal rearing as well as for exported medicine and firewood.
By creating a botanical bank to preserve the incredible biodiversity of wild and traditionally cultivated edible & medicinal plants and fruit trees like the Dawadawa, Baobab, Shea, and the multitude of wild yams that are becoming endangered, we hope to be a resource for not only youth awareness but also community-wide reforestation practices.
